Millie and Lily are learning to play woodwind instruments at Abbeyfield School in Chippenham, supported by Jemima’s Gift.
Millie is learning to play the oboe and has now passed her Grade One ABRSM exam as well as playing regularly in North Wiltshire Junior Wind Band.
Lily gained her Grade Three on the bassoon with distinction this summer. She plays with NWJWB and has also joined the Intermediate Wind Band where she is the only bassoon player!
Both girls have been working really hard on these tricky instruments and we have received glowing reports from their woodwind teacher, who is hoping to form a “Double Reed Ensemble” at the school in the near future.
We are particularly looking forward to hearing Lily and Millie play at this weekend’s Music Marathon!
Double reed instruments, particularly the bassoon, are classed as “endangered instruments” and are part of Classic FM’s campaign to increase the popularity of some less-played instruments, so we are especially proud to be facilitating these young musicians’ lessons.
Well done girls – keep up the good work!
