“At the end of June, Ceri and I will be embarking on our “Side to Side” cycling challenge; a 420 mile route from St David’s, Pembrokeshire to Lowestoft, Suffolk. With our kit loaded in panniers, we will travel to Milford Haven and complete the short cycle to St David’s, before turning around and spending the next week pedalling across the country to raise money for two charities, both of which have huge personal meaning to us.
Ceri will be raising money for Alzheimers Research UK in memory of her Grandfather and Godfather, who both suffered from the dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, investing around £6.8 million annually in world-class research. Every £20 that she raises will fund vital reasearch to find preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia. The charity also campaigns for increased support and awareness of dementia research, and works with policy makers to push the case for investing in dementia research to help the hundreds of thousands of people living with dementia in the UK today and for future generations.
I will raise money for Jemima’s Gift, which was set up by the Prees family in Colerne in memory of their 10 year old daughter, Jemima, who was tragically killed in a skiing accident in February 2013. All the money donated to Jemima’s Gift will go towards providing opportunities for other children towards achieving their full potential – in sports, the arts and in learning activities.
We will be doing the week-long ride totally unsupported. We’ve planned our routes and have been training in earnest, any money we can raise will not only fund vital dementia research and help to improve children’s lives, but will also spur us on during the hardest parts of the ride.”
We wish Chris and Ceri every success for their ride, we are so grateful for this demonstration of solidarity and support, thank you.
